WOW &
WOWSCAN Implementation
and Operation Guide |

|
Welcome
to WOW Software. Since you have
opened the box by now, please notice the following:
Ø
Your Visor has
been charged and set up for your operation.
Ø
You have a sample
sheet of items from your product catalog that you can scan.
Ø
Please follow
the directions (in order) to establish your desktop or laptop PC with
your new WOWSCAN PDA.
Ø
You will first
set up the HandSpring Visor Software (Palm HotSync) on your desktop.
Ø
You will then
set up the Take An Order software on the desktop.
Ø
This is required
to allow synchronization with your PC and to create file structures for
new catalogs and new customer files.
Ø
You will then
install WOW and the associated WOWSCAN files.

you have had a chance to familiarize yourself with the products, please

Handspring Visor
Setup
Ø
Your package
includes a setup CD from Handspring.
Please insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
You should see a welcome screen after a few moments.
Ø
Use your mouse
to select “Next”
Ø
This will start
the InstallShield Wizard to install the Palm Desktop and Synchronization
Wizard.
Ø
Click “Next”
Ø
You may see a
screen that says “Microsoft Outlook Detected”
Ø
If so, select
the “I want to use Palm Desktop” – If desired, you can always reinstall
the CD for Outlook at a later time.
Ø
Click “Next”
Ø
The Location
Selection Menu will now appear. Accept
the default Destination folder that should be C:\Program Files\Handspring.
Ø
Click “Next”
Ø
The Connect Your
Cradle menu will now appear – the default should be USB cradle.
Ø
The software
will now ask you to plug in your USB cradle into your USB port. At the same time, you should attach power to
your cradle. In your packaging,
you will see a separate power plug. One
end of the power plug goes to your electrical outlet. The other goes to the interface adapter on the USB cable.
Ø
In some cases,
this may bring up another dialog box from Windows that will install USB
support for your system. If this
is the case, wait until the Windows dialog box is finished.
Ø
Click “Next”
Ø
The Model Selection
menu will now appear.
Ø
Choose your model
(Visor Edge or Visor Pro).
Ø
Click “Next”
Ø
The User Creation
screen will now appear.
Ø
Choose your user
name as WOW
Ø
Click “Next”
Ø
The Perform Mail
Setup screen should now appear.
Ø
Click “No” to
skip this part.
Ø
The HotSync Manager
should now start.
Ø
The system will
ask you to place your Visor in the cradle and press the HotSync button.
Ø
Please do so
– you may see that Windows is installing software at the same time.
Ø
If this occurs,
please wait until Windows is finished.
Ø
Click “Next”
Ø
The system may
ask you to restart your system – if so, please restart your computer. Take An Order
Software Setup
Ø
The Take An Order
software module is distributed to you on your CD.
Ø
Please insert
the CD in your CD drive. Using
Windows Explorer for your CD drive, open the TakeAnOrder folder. Double click on the Install.exe program. The software will be copied to your system.
Ø
The first question
you should be asked s if you want to accept the default fonts. Please click on OK.
Ø
The next question
you should be asked is if you want to install the optional PalmPrint_Doc.prc
that lets you view and print doc files on your Visor. The default answer for this is “No.” If you have been told that this update includes
PalmPrint - you may click “Yes.”
Ø
The next question
is if you want to install the optional file PalmPrint_Eudora.prc that
lets you print Emails from the Eudora application. The default answer
for this is “No.”
Ø
The next question
is if you want to install the optional PalmPrint_Expense.prc that lets
you print from the Palm Expense Application.
The default answer for this is “No.”
Ø
The next question
is if you want to install the optional PalmPrint_Imessgenger.prc that
lets you print from the Palm iMessenger application. The default answer for this is “No.”
Ø
The next question
is if you want to install the optional PalmPrint_Mail.prc that lets you
print from the Palm Mail application.
The default answer for this is “No.”
Ø
You will be asked
to select the PDA(s) that will be update. Choose all PDA’s that have WOWSCAN currently installed.
Ø
The installer
will now ask you if you want to read and/or print the manual now. Choose No.
Ø
The Take An Order
and Palm Print software are now installed on your desktop.
Ø
You now should
synchronize – press the synchronization button on the cradle to begin.
Ø
If you have not
installed WOW before… you will be asked to identify the user - Type WOW - (3 letters all capital) for the
first user. If you have other
WOWSCAN units, they will be sequentially numbered (WOW2, WOW3, WOW4,
etc.) Be certain that you have no other characters
than asked for. Be certain that
the WOW name is all caps.
To
familiarize yourself with Take An Order - please review the associated
manual we have created for you. It
is named WOW TAO Manual.doc and is located in the WOW folder.
WOWSCAN installation
You
have been provided a WOW installation CD. Insert
the CD into your CD-ROM drive and open the WOW folder. Double-click
on the setupex.exe program and wait for the first prompt.
Take
the default suggestions for implementation.
You will need to identify yourself and your company. At all other prompts, you can take the default
suggestion and click Next.
WOWSCAN Operation
Your
WOW system has already been pre-built with your products, employees, customers,
etc. You will still need to use
WOWSCAN to create new catalogs and updated customer lists for your Visor
and to synchronize with the Visor to receive Orders.
WOWSCAN Setup You
can start WOWSCAN Setup from the Scanning menu item within WOW. You should see a screen similar to this:
Export
Customers
The
first grid displays your customer file.
If you have changed your customer file within WOW and you want
create a new file, you will need to click on the Export Customers button
to create a new file.
The very first
time you do this, you will need to set up a link in the HotSync Manager.
Ø
Go to the HotSync
Manager in your system tray and right click on the red and blue icon.
Select File Link.
Ø
The link should
be established for your user name. Click
on Create A New Link.
Ø
The default application
should be set up for the Address Book - this is correct. Change the file name to C:\WOW\WOWHHCust.csv.
This is the name of the file that WOW creates when it exports your
customer file. For the Category Name, enter WOWCustomers.
Click Next
Ø
The next box
should show you how the fields will be mapped.
The default settings should be accurate. Click OK.
Ø
Click Done.
This
activity should only need to be done once.
Export Products
The
bottom grid is used to select the manufacturers (suppliers) that you would
like to export. Select each manufacturer
row (it should be highlighted). Then
click Export Products. WOW will
determine if you have selected more than 30,000 products.
If so, the export will not continue. Otherwise,
a catalog file will be created and stored in the appropriate folder for
the next synchronization. After
you synchronize, the products will be updated on your Visor.
WOWSCAN Import
After
you have taken orders with your Visor, you will want to synchronize those
orders with WOW. To begin this
process you must first hit the HotSync button on the cradle with your
Visor. This will transfer the orders to the desktop
PC.
Within
WOW, select Scanning|WOWSCAN Import.
You should see a screen similar to this:
WOW
will attempt to determine the correct location of your order file automatically.
If
successful, it will show all of the orders that are available. Click on the order # you would like to copy
to the New Order window. You should
then see a screen similar to this:
Your
order will be copied to the New Order screen.
You now can further customize the order within WOW. If you Save the order, it will be available
to you for further analysis within Review Orders.
